Tree trimming over house

Tree Trimming Makes Elkins Park Property Safer

It’s a chilly day in Elkins Park as Giroud Climbers Josh Dorr and Saul Morales weave their way through tree branches, carefully pruning out deadwood. They have a lot of trees to clean up, and the job takes all day. This property has several trees, and some of the larger ones have branches that hang directly over the house. Tree trimming is vital for keeping this property safe!

Preventing Disaster

These homeowners know that routine pruning and trimming is vital when it comes to keeping their property safe. Their ISA Certified Giroud Arborist, Rob Nagy, has been monitoring these trees for nearly a decade and recommends cleanouts every few years.

“I’ve seen what can happen when trees are left unchecked,” says Rob. “It’s really important to have your trees checked every year because a trained arborist can spot problems that a homeowner might overlook. Investing in pruning every few years is a lot less costly than having to pay for massive storm damage.”

On his latest inspection at this property, Rob saw that an Ash Tree was dead, another victim of the Emerald Ash Borer. Josh, Saul, and Giroud Groundman, Ken O’Connor, worked together to carefully remove this tree. Ash tree removals are tricky. That’s because Ash trees have tight veins, and as the Emerald Ash Borer larvae chew their way through the tree, water circulation is cut off. This makes the Ash tree very brittle and branches break easily.

“You do not want to leave a dead Ash on your property,” warns Rob. “It doesn’t take much to knock down one of those heavy branches, or even the whole tree for that matter!”
