Tracking Deer to Stop Ticks

Stop Ticks on Your Property by Tracking Deer

When you want to stop ticks, look for deer.  Wildlife expert and ISA Certified Arborist, Rob Nagy, takes us to a client’s property where deer are such frequent guests that they’ve made a path across the backyard.

Deer Carry Ticks

While beautiful to watch, deer unfortunately bring along hitchhiking ticks. These bloodsucking insects ride along and often drop off in the underbrush as deer walk over your property. Once in the underbrush, they lay in wait to jump on the next warm body that comes along. Unfortunately, anyone, who spends time playing or walking through the yard, especially children and pets, becomes the most likely target.

Ticks are Active even Colder Months

Many people think that ticks are only a problem in the summertime. However, adults are actually very active and looking for food sources in the fall through the winter and into early spring!

Deer Ticks

The Blacklegged Tick, or “deer tick”, is very common in Pennsylvania. These insects can transmit a variety of diseases to humans and pets. Most notably is Lyme disease, but they can also transmit the Powassan virus and many other illnesses that can cause lifelong pain and sickness!
